Report on regional workshop on civil society sustainability in West Africa

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), in collaboration with INTRAC and with support from Plan Sweden, Wilde Ganzen, Broederlijk Delen and CBM International organised a one-day regional workshop on the Sustainability of Civil Society in West Africa on November 17, 2015 at the WACSI Conference Hall in Accra, Ghana.

CONSULTATION REPORT: HOW TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN CIVIL SOCIETY SPACE. WHAT WORKS? SUB-SARAHAN AFRICA

In line with the follow-up resolution adopted at the 27th HRC Session in September 2014, the consultation brought together representatives of civil society in Africa to develop practical
recommendations and other relevant resources and entry points for civil society to engage with Human Rights Council mechanisms pertaining to civic space issues. The consultation enabled participants to share country-wide and regional perspectives and best practices on civil society space and identify lessons for civil society organisations operating in environments where fundamental human rights are severely restricted.

A Synthesized Report on the Impact of Covid-19 on Civil Society Organizations in West Africa

Civic space backsliding ahead of elections in Francophone West Africa Case studies: Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Niger and Togo

The report uses ratings of the CIVICUS Monitor, a research tool that provides quantitative and qualitative data on the state of civic freedoms in 196 countries. The data is generated through a collaboration with more than 20 civil society research partners and input from a number of independent human rights evaluations. Based on our analysis of multiple streams of data on civic space, each country’s civic space is rated in one of five categories: 'Open', 'Narrowed', 'Obstructed', 'Restricted' and 'Closed'.
